Vietnam

Together with the improving living standard and positive growth of Vietnam economy, the proportion of traditional retail formats (such as wet market, hawker stalls, and shop houses) has reduced gradually. In 2017, modern retail channels has a healthy growth of 6.2% y-o-y, faster than other countries in SEA (Nielsen survey on retail turnover of FMCG). The growth rate of retail and services turnover in Vietnam has always been higher than 10% annually (Vietnamese Government Statistics Office).

Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are the two largest economic and financial centers in Vietnam, where modern retail format evolved significantly with increasing participation of foreign developers and operators. Any new retail brands to Vietnam will open their first store in either Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi and expand to the other.

Our Top Tip For
New Arrivals

Vietnamese drivers casually ignore traffic signals, so crossing the road can be a nerve-racking experience. If you walk slowly and calmly across the road, you should be OK.

Bargaining price on street shops and in traditional market is still popular in Vietnam.
