Chile

As in other Latin American countries, Chile’s retail activity takes place predominantly in modern urban and suburban shopping centres. Only local operators trade from the high street, with the exception of Santiago’s Avenue Alonso de Cordova, a converted former residential street in the Vitacura District. This street features many luxury brands, including Hermes, Burberry and Louis Vuitton. Traditionally, retail ownership and development was controlled by Chilean operators and developers, but with continued growth in spending and sustained economic stability there has been interest from international investment funds. Chilean department stores dominate this sector of the market and have proven so strong that they have expanded into the neighbouring markets of Argentina and Peru.
