alex Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden and the single most important retail market with a primary catchment area of 2.2 million inhabitants. The most important retail destinations in the city center are the department store of NK, Åhléns and the Gallerian Shopping Centre. There are also two smaller up scaled gallerias; Mood and Sturegallerian. Major retail high streets are Drottninggatan, Sergelgatan, part of Hamngatan and Kungsgatan as a secondary street. Major retail high street for luxury goods are Biblioteksgatan and the lower end of Birger Jarlsgatan, so called Biblioteksstan. Outside of the city there are approximately 10 regional shopping centres. Some major are Mall of Scandinavia, Täby, Kista, Forum Nacka and Skärholmen, where Mall of Scandinavia and Täby are considered to be prime Shopping Centre. There are four major retail parks or retail park areas; Länna, Kungens Kurva, Barkarby and Arninge. As a rule, rents per sq m for the major shopping centres represent approximately half of that found on the high street. There is a new willingness to invest in retail space in Stockholm, however the planning regulations are very restricted.
