Retail By City

city rank #71

City Overview

Set amid the stunning beauty of the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle area is a world-class region to visit and in which to live, work and play. Several factors contribute to the region's prosperity, including consistent population growth and a successful, highly entrepreneurial business sector. The region is recognized regularly as being highly literate and educated as well as in tune with the high-tech world. The Pacific Northwest offers a wide range of shopping opportunities. Seattle's diverse neighborhoods have virtually every type of shopping imaginable, from outdoor gear to trendy threads and the latest in home furnishings. The historic Pike Place Market, overlooking the Seattle waterfront, is a tourist destination where fishmongers throw their ware over the counter, and the original Starbucks just around the corner. The International District boasts Uwajimaya's, an Asian food and gift market with products to please just about everyone. Neighborhoods such as South Lake Union, Georgetown, Capitol Hill and Ballard feature funky boutiques filled with original clothes and décor items. The Bravern is the newest large retail center in the region and it brought to the area a wealth of new retailers, including Neiman Marcus, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo and Jimmy Choo. Several regional malls, including The Bellevue Collection, Westfield Southcenter, Northgate Mall and Alderwood Mall, have expanded recently to add new dining and shopping experiences. In addition to many major malls, the surrounding area has several outlet malls, which are especially attractive to those coming from Canada, just 90 minutes to the north. Interest from global and regional retailers remains significant due to the areas' high incomes and strong education levels.
