Retail By City

city rank #149

City Overview

The Helsinki Metropolitan Area is home to nearly a fifth of the population in Finland, making it the largest single city region in the country, and its catchment area reaches across the borders of the region. Helsinki has a rather compact central business district, with high street retail centred mostly on the streets Aleksanterinkatu and Pohjoisesplanadi and the streets crossing them, some of which are converted to pedestrian streets. Shopping centre and department store formats are, however, much more significant in Helsinki than its high streets. The main retail destinations include, for example, Kamppi and Forum shopping centres, as well as Stockmann and Sokos department stores. Outside the city centre, there are some regional shopping centres, such as Itis, Sello, Jumbo, Iso Omena, Myyrmanni and Redi.
