Retail By City

Frankfurt am MainGermany

city rank #23

City Overview

With around 5.5 million inhabitants in the greater Frankfurt area, the city is one of Germany’s most important economic centres. It is also the financial centre of Germany with headquarters of major banks, insurance firms and other related service companies. The European Central Bank (ECB), the German stock exchange and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) are located here. Not only for finance but also in terms of traffic, Frankfurt serves as a central hub in Germany with one of the most important train stations and the largest airport.

Due to this beneficial fact, Frankfurt is often start or final destination in roundtrips of Asian tourist groups. Trade fairs like IAA motor show or Frankfurter Buchmesse are brands on their own regularly attracting many foreign business people. And on top, Frankfurt is growing. All in all, these are the breeding grounds for a well equipped and rich retail scene, comprising several important shopping centres, Zeil mass market location and Goethestraße luxury zone, currently being extended to a larger quarter.
