City Overview

Dresden is the capital of the federal state Saxony. The city has prominent historic monuments attracting tourists from Germany and abroad. Due to its location on the riverbanks and it's reconstructed historic center, the city is called the ‘Florence on the Elbe’, generating more than 4.6 million overnight stays. In addition, Dresden’s economy is based on micro-electronics, information and bio-technologies, for which the technical university acts as an innovator.

The major high street in Dresden is Prager Strasse, which is home to all major retailers. It also offers two inner-city shopping centers, Altmarkt-Galerie and Centrum Galerie, which have a broad retail offer of complementary products. Seestrasse and Altmarkt are more focused on tourism and gastronomy, while Neumarkt currently attracts upmarket brands. Palais Hoym on the Neumarkt with a combination of residential, office-, retail- and hotelspace is among the most interesting high street developments.
