Retail By City

BrisbaneAustralia

city rank #113

City Overview

The Brisbane CBD is a grid system, spread over Queen Street Mall, Queens Plaza, Edward Street, Albert Street and Adelaide Street. The CBD (in particular the Queen Street Mall and adjoining Edward and Albert Streets) continues to attract international retailers, with openings including Uniqlo, H&M, Zara and William Sonoma.

Substantial shopping centre development potential remains across the metropolitan area, particularly in the area of supermarket anchored neighbourhood centres in growth corridors. Many larger (regional) centres have recently completed or are undergoing expansion (e.g. Westfield Chermside, Westfield North Lakes, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and Westfield Garden City) and are becoming more diverse in nature with a mix of traditional and non-traditional retailing and modern food/entertainment precincts. International retailers are also starting to take a greater presence at regional centres. Lifestyle/food precincts are strengthening their presence in inner city areas where a large amount of high density unit development is occurring. Tenant demand from national chains and franchises remains solid while quality investment offerings remain sought after. This has supported modest but steady rental growth and firm yields.

Following the recent acquisition of the CBD's most prominent retail asset by Vicinity Centres, Queens Plaza is set to undergo a major refurbishment to further cement it's position as the city's premium retail destination.
