Retail By City

BerlinGermany

city rank #10

City Overview

Berlin is capital and largest city of Germany. As the seat of the Federal Government it is also base of many foreign embassies as well as political and economic organizations. In addition to the public sector, Berlin’s economy relies on publishing, multi-media and science. There is a flourishing sector of tech start-ups benefitting from the overall urban scene and culture. Three universities and a strong touristic sector driven by the multifaceted history contribute to both international diversity and inspiring perspectives for the local economy, namely retail.

With 39 main shopping centres, further additional retail parks and at least three major highstreet areas, Berlin’s retail scene shows an uncompared richness in Germany, not to name the traditional retail areas in Berlin’s city districts, known as 'Kiez'. Kurfürstendamm, Tauentzienstraße, Friedrichstraße and Leipziger Platz accounted for high construction volumes in the last years and the area around Hackescher Markt is unique in Germany if it comes to innovative retail formats and thus is a must to know for new arrivals.
